Introduction to Outrider’s Trickster
To really understand the Trickster, we need to understand its main way of survivability. The three boxes below will clear this up. It’s not a riddle, but we’re trying to grasp the Trickster playstyle, and it’s always better when you figure it out instead of reading the answer.
The Class’ name is Trickster.
Think about that word as you read the other two hints. Don’t worry, it will make sense in a minute.
Skill: Hunt the Prey
Its Hunt the Prey skill allows the Trickster to teleport behind an enemy and receive a shield bonus. Extremely useful hit and run skill.
Its main way of healing is by killing enemies in close range.
It gets healed by 20% of maximum health and grants you 12% shield.
So, what do these three things tell you? That Tricksters are a hit and run class. That’s how you’re supposed to play Trickster, but there’s more…
The Trickster’s Melee Skill is another big part of the class. The melee skill deals damage and inflicts the Slow status effect to all enemies within a small radius.
Outriders: Trickster Basic Combo
A very basic combo would be to activate Hunt the Prey, then use the Melee Skill, Slow Trap all enemies and deal the bulk of the damage with Temporal Blade and your guns. You will gain access to more skills as your characters levels up. Depending on your situation, you can swap Slow Trap and Temporal Blade for other skills. However, I recommend using the Hunt the Prey skill as much as possible since it’s such an essential part of the Trickster class.
Now, that we have a basic grasp of how Trickster works, let’s review the available skills. Use the Table of Contents to the right on desktop or the one at the top of our guide on mobile to jump to any other section you might be interested in if you’re already familiar with skills.
Outriders: Trickster Skills
Let’s review each and every skill. We will break down its effects, helpful mods to look out for and tips on how and when to use them in battle.
Temporal Blade
Temporal Blade is a Damage and Interrupt type skill. That means it can deal high amounts of damage and interrupt enemy skills. You can see the golden bar above the enemy’s health bar whenever it’s charging a skill. Whenever you see that, it means you can interrupt that skill with your skills of type interrupt, such as the Temporal Blade. The base Cooldown is 16 seconds.
Mods to look out for
The Slasher mod will grant you one more use of Temporal Blade before it triggers the cooldown. This makes a great combination with the Strong Slice mod that increases the Temporal Blade’s damage.

Slow Trap
Slow Trap creates a force field around your character, which inflicts the Slow status effect on all enemies it surrounds and their bullets. You can use Slow Trap immediately after jumping behind enemies with Hunt the Prey. This allows you to take your time attacking the enemy. By far, the biggest weakness of Slow Trap is its Cooldown of 31 seconds, since it makes it that much harder to rely on it.
Mods to look out for
The Big Range and Ultimate Big Range mods increase Slow Trap’s zone by 1 meter and 2 meters, respectively. Last, but not least, the Thunder Dome mod grants you 100% Shield when the zone disappears.
Hunt the Prey
The Trickster’s bread and butter. This skill allows you to jump behind an enemy, and coupled with some mods, it can do a lot more than that. This skill makes “hitting and running” that much easier because you can disrupt the enemies formation and attacks with just one jump. Hunt the Prey has an 11 seconds Cooldown, which can be further reduced with Mods.
Mods to look out for
It’s really important that you can use Hunt the Prey as an initiation to your attack, and in some cases as an escape. Because of that, reducing its Cooldown with mods like Dance of Death is essential. Hunt the Prey is used mostly as an initiator, but mods like Time Blast will apply Slow in a 5-meter radius around the enemy you teleport behind. This allows you to save the Slow from your melee attack for later.
Twisted Rounds
Overloads your weapon’s bullets with Anomaly powers, significantly increasing the weapon’s damage output. The effects last until you reload or switch weapons. While this skill doesn’t synergise well with the Trickster class, it is extremely powerful. It has a Cooldown of 20 seconds.
Mods to look out for
You can increase the skill’s base power with mods like Strong Twist that increase Firepower by 15%. On the other hand, killing shots replenish 20% ammunition with the Ammo Bargain mod. Another noteworthy mod is Shield of the Fallen, which adds 15% of your max health as Shields for every enemy killed with the skill.
Cyclone Slice
Another Damage and Interrupt type skill like Temporal Blade. The difference is that you can move with this one and it can interrupt an enemy several times, but it also makes you a target. It’s more useful than Temporal Blade when there are no more enemies than the ones caught in your cyclone. During Cyclone Slice, your character creates a whirlwind with blades and every time it hits an opponent, it will hurt them and interrupt them.
Mods to look out for
The most useful mod, by far, is Healing Slice. This mod will heal you 47 Health for each enemy killed with the skill. This addresses Cyclone Slices
Borrowed Time
Borrowed Time is a movement type of Skill. You gain a Shield and your location gets marked for 28 seconds. You can activate the skill again within the 28-seconds window and it will teleport you back to the marked location. The skill has a 13-seconds Cooldown. Like ‘Hunt the Prey’, this skill is extremely useful and improves your survivability. You can even use it in conjunction with Hunt the Prey. Mark your location, jump quickly towards a target with Hunt the Prey, kill as many enemies as you can and jump back when you’re in danger. I haven’t tried that myself, but it’s an interesting build for those who dare.
Mods to look out for
Armor of Eons increases your Armor by 100% for 10 seconds.
Venator’s Knife
Venator’s Knife is an interesting skill. It will throw a knife at an enemy and bounce between a maximum of 5 enemies. Each knife hit will damage and mark the enemies. Every enemy will be inflicted with the Slow status effect and the first hit against marked enemies will deal double the damage. It has a quick Cooldown period of 10 seconds.
Mods to look out for
The No Escape mod will increase the skill’s range between targets by 25%. This is good, because it prevent the skill from ending abruptly and reach more targets. You can also use the Sharpening mod to increase the damage.
Time Rift
Time Rift creates a shockwave that suspends enemies in the air and paralyses them for 3.5 seconds. It also inflicts Weakness on every enemy it touches. This skill makes an amazing combination with Hunt the Prey. You jump behind your target, you then use Time Rift to immobilise every enemy and you can even hit them with an additional skill such as Temporal Blade or Cyclone Slice.
Mods to look out for
The Pain Transfer mod will transfer damage you deal within the time rift to another enemy. This can be quite useful when your skills are on cooldown and you can’t deal Area of Effect damage.
Outriders: Trickster Class Trees
You can go in any direction in the class tree, but choosing a direction and picking any one of the three “sub-classes” (that’s what I call them) is the way to go. The three classes are called Assassin, Harbinger, and Reaver. Next, I will break down what each class is all about and how to use them!
Assassin
There are some incredibly powerful abilities in this class tree. Auto-Shotguns are extremely powerful in Outriders, so if you enjoy an up-close and personal fight, I recommend you consider going the way of shotguns. I will delve deeper into this in my Trickster Builds section below.

Class Points
This build revolves around Weapon Damage. The Assassin class has quite a few perks that we need for this build. Let’s look at all the class perks we’ll be getting for this build.
The first one is Arms Pick since we need to go that way in the class tree, but it’s a good one regardless. Next, we can pick between Bulletstorm or Ace of Trumps. We’ll be going with Bulletstorm since the Auto Shotguns devour ammunition. The next one is Death Probability. This one increases your Weapon Damage by 8%, and well… this build is all about damage.
Death Probability will open the path to an important perk called Shotgun Master. Shotgun Master increases Shotgun Weapon Damage by 15%, and that’s great because we love auto shotguns for this build. It also increases the chance of getting a shotgun as loot by 20%. This is also amazing since it’ll help us find even better shotguns. Next, you can pick between Deadly Shadows or Equilibrium. Deadly Shadows increases your Critical Damage by 20%, which is great, but for this build, we’ll be going with Equilibrium’s reduced Cooldown of Movement skills since it’s something we heavily rely on.
Let’s talk about Outrider Executioner. This class point increases your Weapon Damage by 50% whenever you activate a Movement-type Skill for 8 seconds. And since we will be using Hunt the Prey left and right, that 50% weapon damage boost will be active most of the times. At last, we have Disruptive Firepower. This perk is similar to Outrider Executioner but increases damage when you active Deception-type skills, e.g Slow Trap. In other words, only get Disruptive Firepower if you’re planning to use Deception-type skills. If you do decide to use Slow Trap with Disruptive Firepower, I recommend the Singularity skill that’s right next to the second Arms Trick to reduce the cooldown of Slow Trap.
Last, but not least, we have Scion of the Power. This skill will give you an extra 50% damage boost whenever a Damage-type skill ends. All of this combines essentially guarantees you will have at least 50% damage boost enabled at all times.
Mods
The most important mod for this build is the Additional Mag mod. This essentially doubles the duration of Twisted Rounds. You can complement Additional Mag with the Strong Twist mod to increase the damage power of Twisted Rounds.
Dance of Death is another extremely useful mod. This one reduces the Cooldown of Hunt the Prey. This means you can get that 50% damage boost for longer, plus, Hunt the Prey is an essential skill. These make up the essential mods, but everything else included what I added to the summary, is optional and depends on what you find. Don’t be afraid to experiment with other mods and even skills or class perks.
Skills
The main skills are Twisted Rounds, Hunt the Prey, and Slow Trap, although Slow Trap can be replaced for something else. The idea is to trigger the 50% damage boosts with Hunt the Prey, then Slow Trap and blast everything that moves with Twisted Rounds. In addition, when Twisted Rounds ends, you will get another 50% damage boost from Scion of the Power.
How to use this build
The idea is simple. You activate Twister Rounds, teleport with Hunt the Prey, activating the 50% damage boost from Outrider Executioner. When you shoot your enemies from behind, you activate Unforseen End and when Twisted Round runs outs, you activate Scion of the Power. Of course, you can get even more damage if you have Slow Trap and Disruptive Firepower. In that case, it goes: Twisted Rounds, Hunt the Prey, Slow Trap and you start shooting.

Outriders: Trickster Battle Strategies
As I’ve mentioned in the introduction to this guide, the Trickster is a hit and run class. It has the means to hit and evade enemies. At all times, you need to have a Movement type skill, unless you’re going for a Harbinger build. Hunt the Prey is an extremely useful skill and you should give it a chance at the very least.
Whenever you jump behind an enemy, use the abilities at your disposal to inflict Slow on your enemies. Even your Melee ability can inflict Slow. Remember, you need to creep up behind enemies, hit them hard and scram. Preferably until you have your skills ready again.
What to do when you’re surrounded and without skills
You’ll find yourself in this situation more often than you would like. Sometimes you jump behind an enemy, start blasting your guns and skills, but you didn’t even kill half of them and you start getting shot at from everywhere.
The first thing you should do when this happens is to spot the enemy with the lowest health and kill that one. If they’re all at max health, hit the easiest one to kill. Don’t even check your health, I guarantee you that your health will be going down fast when this happens. This is why you need to kill an enemy, to heal.
How to Fight Bosses
You can apply everything you’ve learned from this guide to bosses in Outriders. The most important part of fighting bosses is preparing for the fight. For once, you can read my guide on How to Beat Gauss Solo (I will be adding more boss strategies, soon).
Every boss battle shares some characteristics. Altered bosses will always have some ammo lying around, which makes it easier for you not to worry too much about ammo. Monster bosses, however, usually send smaller monsters and they drop ammo when you kill them. You can easily run out of ammo fighting these boss monsters and make the battle longer than it needs to be.
You need to plan ahead. Let’s say you bring with you an auto-shotgun. What are you gonna do when it runs out of ammo? Because it will. Auto-shotguns are extremely powerful but very short on ammo. A good way to offset the balance is to use your auto-shotgun exclusively with the Twisted Rounds skill. A less known effect of Twisted Rounds is that it doesn’t use regular ammo.
Even after taking all the aforementioned precautions, you should still make sure your secondary weapon makes for a good replacement. The main thing your secondary weapon needs to do is hold on until you get ammo for your primary weapon, but still pack a punch, unlike your Sidearm. That doesn’t mean you should ignore your Sidearm. You should still give it the proper mods at least!
Conclusion
Let me just say thanks if you’ve read this guide, even just one section. It took a lot of work to craft, but it’s not over, yet. I will be expecting feedback and I can’t wait to make this guide even better. Leave a comment and tell me if you’d like the guide and what else would you like to see added, as well as any future guides. I plan to release more Outriders content, soon!
Do you use a build similar to the ones from this guide? Let me know!
